Uh.. just a bunch of necessary detail and fabrication work getting done by me before dropping the new motor. Puke tank plumbing. Second chute cable. Detailing the engine compartment and wheel wells with the gray primer used underneath. I just got done designing and fabricating a way to connect the 5th and 6th point placement of my new harness. The NHRA in their wisdom 🙄 has decided that cars running 7.99 now need to change to a 6 point harness. My current harness cert expires tomorrow anyway so 🫤 IMG_8010.jpeg IMG_8013.jpeg IMG_8059.jpeg IMG_8015.jpeg IMG_8016.jpeg IMG_7997.jpeg IMG_7995.jpeg IMG_8019.jpeg IMG_8073.jpeg IMG_8071.jpeg IMG_8068.jpeg IMG_8069.jpeg IMG_8070.jpeg IMG_8046.jpeg IMG_8045.jpeg IMG_8036.jpeg IMG_8038.jpeg

Getting ready to bake this cake. With everything gathered up for roll call and photo shoot, the assembly begins. My job is to weigh and match the pistons, rods and pins to get them as close to matched as possible. Then some massaging for perfection 😎. Callies Ultra Billet crankshaft with CP Carrillo forged rods and billet pistons. One of the things that has been hidden away and will come into the light is my new cylinder head combination. A set of Thiteck Bears with a custom turbo configuration. Huge exhaust setup with these. A T&D shaft rocker system with custom Crower billet cam and Johnson lifters. Yes it is 🫣. Fortunately for me I’m paying wholesale on everything and not paying for the huge labor costs that a “customer “ would be looking at. Even still… it’s formidable. The parts choices are based on the cry once model. There’s been a collective participation from some of the big names in the industry like CP Carrillo and Callies and others that wont be mentioned. Some really trick proprietary stuff like coatings that aren’t even available to the “public”. Top Fuel level secret shit 🤓. Anyway…. Considering that I just turned 78 and you can’t take it with you…..

So with the engine build being the main focus now….. some info on what’s going on. We’re using CP Carrillo pistons and rods. This is an area where there are a lot of choices. These are the top of their lineup. Due to SpankinTime’s relationship with them, we got a package that included digitizing the cylinder head combustion chambers and mirror imaging the pistons to max flame spread. These are custom pistons made to Adams specs. Compression is 12:1. This rod, in his opinion, is the best forged rod for this high level. He’s used about every combination there is depending on application and budget. He places Oliver and the special forging Manleys that they occasionally produce as close but not first. We actually have a set of those Manleys that we were going to use before Carrillo came out with these. We have employed some special coatings here and there. The wrist pins are wearing Calico Coatings DLC (Diamond Like Ceramic). The piston skirts are sporting Line2Line Abradable. Basically the latest trick shit. The crankshaft is the Callies Ultra Billet to go with the Callies Hellephant block. The trickest of the trick, that I’m not even allowed to talk about, are the main bearings. Out of the Top Fuel world that isn’t even available to anyone who isn’t connected. One of the perks of being in the race engine building world for 20 years I guess. The cylinder heads are Thiteks. He did some custom chamber and port work for the turbo application. Bumping the valves will be a custom Crower Billet Cam and T&D Shaft Rocker system with Johnson short lifters. That’s about it for the internals that make the power. A ton of effort going into the balance/blueprint part of making everything fit. Adam is stepping away from the car wrenching and going full time engine building and tuning. He has a complete in house machine shop now so complete control and no farming anything out. Wrenching will still be available but that part of the business is being done by his son. After we get this one finished, he is going to build an inventory of crate motors available for purchase. No waiting. I didn’t get into the details but I’m sure they will be a more budget friendly offering than this thing. The one thing he did say is they be built to the same standard in the quality dept. Here’s some pics… IMG_8138.jpeg IMG_8125.jpeg IMG_8141.jpeg IMG_8144.jpeg IMG_8140.jpeg IMG_8136.jpeg IMG_8116.jpeg IMG_8184.jpeg

I know. I guess they had to call it something that wasn’t already taken. 😂 It’s real thin and black and so hard that it’s unscratchable. They even use it on watches 😎

DLC is nothing short of a remarkable invention. I haven't had the need to use it for a while, but the last set of piston pins I did wasn't too bad cost wise (from Trend). And yes the icing on the cake is it's so thin you don't have to account for it clearance wise.
