The StinkPak fuel system came in today. 7 gpm fuel pump, filters and regulator. Good for 2500 supercharged hp on ethanol. View attachment 33057

Nice . That is a pretty solid pump . Are you mounting it external or in the fuel cell ?

External. The 15 gallon fuel tank has a sump with two connections. One for supply and the other will be to drain the tank. This setup allows me to run less volume and not have any supply issues like we have with the drop-ins needing a half tank (weight) to not suck air. 79A8A3E9-06BE-44A1-858D-7656673B7B0E.jpeg 0E3D8F27-5B9C-4B1C-86AF-5FF60C5FF339.jpeg F3F1550B-7F7D-4134-BA9B-C01425AEEC4C.jpeg

I had a Fuellab 42402 back when... key-on and then RRRRRRRR as it primed my fire hose of a fuel line before I’d crank it over. I’m happy to not have an external pump anymore, but for you - it’s the right choice.

So excited to see this conversion under way for you! Ohhhh buddy!!! Is this a "kit" made for the Challenger or a generic kit (cut to fit, so to speak)? Brand?

nothing generic in this build at all. I believe it’s as custom as custom comes

It’s half kit and half custom. MPR Racing in Michigan is who developed the DragPak Challengers and COPO Camaros for the NHRA F/S Classes back when they were first introduced. They designed and did the modifications to those cars. The last of those were the 2015 builds. The new 2021 DragPak is a whole new design and being built by Watson Engineering, as are the Cobra Jet Mustangs. So... the kit part of this is the Strange housing with all the brackets added and all the links, shocks, springs, etc. that are the MPR design specifically for the Challenger. The kit includes the third member with choice of gearing and the axles and brakes... all the same as the Dragpaks use. This comes directly from Strange as a part of the kit. That’s where the kit part of it stops. The install is a major deal because it involves removing the fuel tank and cutting into the floor to place a crossmember and roll cage connections with underlying floor support that is far beyond the basic 8.5 cert. All of this is necessary to support (triangulate) the attachment points of the 4-link. Don’t try this at home. I’m using a shop that is experienced in custom design and installation of roll cages and tube chassis. I know the first (normal) response is... holy shit how much does something like this cost?!!! The total cost of the “basic kit” is approximately $7500, depending on some minor option choices. The install is costing me $4000 with a additional $2000 for the custom aluminum fuel tank and sheet metal firewall that replaces my rear seat delete with one that will pass NHRA tech requirements for having a fuel cell in the trunk. There is also a significant modification to my existing 8.5 cage. The fuel system for this is obviously different than the drop-in setup I’m using now so that is an additional cost. The big system I’m going to is $3000 total. So for me..., the total ends up being $16,500. If you came rolling in with no cage (nothing) and did the complete install from scratch (including the full cage and wheels/tires) you would be looking at around $25k.

Geez, the cost to build a car is pretty unreal to me, especially after I saw Larry Griffith's A/SA '09 Drag Pack Challenger sell from something like 32 or 34K at a Meecum auction last January. It was under no reserve and estimated to go for 60-80K. The bidding was on it's way up; stalled for a bit and then was hammered down in the low 30s. Couldn't believe it and I'll remember that as "the one that got away". As tempted as I am to to modify my car, I can't help but wonder if I should go looking for a used drag pack.

I have always been astounded by the low prices (compared to build costs) that race cars get at auction compared to “collectibles”. Neither can be driven, but at least the racer can be used for something other than being looked at. They are the “deals” at those auctions. The difference in this case is...... while mine is basically being turned into a DragPak..... it is and will remain a licensed street driven Hellcat. A new DragPak starts at $150k (good luck getting one) and the older versions will require a fairly expensive updating to be capable of where we are going now. Don’t compare what Schumacher Racing was doing with that old DragPak (Leah driving) with what one of those 354’s would actually do if you got one that has been sitting untouched in a collection.

Wow ! I'm ready looking forward to seeing it completed . I know you posted pics from another car but it's not the same when it's yours . It's nice to see something that is "outside the box" .

There are three of us crazy “out of the box” types here out west with me that are doing this. Joe is the other shop car (red widebody from Calif) ) and Brian (the blue one from here in Utah). Brian has really flipped his lid and gone full DragPak by gutting his 2020 Redeye. He got it on track for the first time two weeks ago in Calif at the Bakersfield event and made a couple get acquainted passes at low power just to see how the new rear behaved. He ran a easy 9.1 at 153 mph and said it was on a rail. He said it was the weirdest thing because it felt like he didn’t even need to have his hands on the wheel. I honestly can not say that’s how mine feels now (to say the least!). Looking forward to a more “planted” driving experience. I’ll add some pics of his car at that event. Got the spring height adjusted and it is looking real good. 3498A459-230A-46E9-9996-1E971D2F76E4.jpeg CDCF7E68-A36D-41C7-8AD5-6D24469F0170.jpeg 6A21713F-F355-4667-AC18-CAC01CC0AF45.jpeg CDF4F7BD-4938-4438-8F90-57A6777B91AF.jpeg

Holy Crap. That's a lot of work to a brand new car . But fast is fun . I also find these cars really smooth going down the track . Mind you I'm only going 148 mph and not speeds like you guys .

Cool video! Thank you for that. So what's the deal with this "Red List" race? Annual event? Bakersfield? 2-3 days? Class system?
