Another consideration to add…. I’m assuming your tuner knows what your combination of engine internals are. Are you still running stock heads? Do you have the insanely expensive head studs to keep those in place. Timing is power and there are limitations to the various parts and pieces that make up your engine. A good tuner knows what you got and could be looking at your numbers and thinking you’re there.
OST did my tune, and I’ve read nothing but good things about them.

I’m not necessarily trying to make more power (yet), I just want to be able to do it on 85 instead of 98.

There are a lot of factors in it but I ran as much as 26 lbs on a small block ford with stock graphite head gaskets. Normally if you blew a head gasket it was something other then boost. Having that fuse saves more expensive pieces

I guess I was assuming if he was running 25psi plus he had a built engine. I know better than to assume tho 😂
Like mark said a lot of factors but if you are running a lot of boost things will let go no matter what timing you are at if things aren’t in place.

It’s a stock RE motor in a SS. What would I need to safely run 24#?

To be honest I don't have the data for that. I'm running 22psi on a stock redeye engine and a 2.7l supercharger. Maybe thats why he left timing down. IDK safley and more and more boost and a whipple is a hard thing to judge.

What I was referencing in a round about way was the potential for lifting a stock cylinder head due to the head studs not being up to holding them down at a point. Thitek being being heavier duty is less likely but there is the potential for hydro locking a cylinder with undesirable results. I know if I was a tuner, I would be having nightmares about exploding engines. Everybody blames the tuner. I wouldn’t give anybody more than 12 degrees. 😂

I went 9.5 on 12 degrees of timing once in pretty warm air.

This is what blown head gaskets do to aluminum and steel. This was a 5.2 block with high grade sleeves. Used a MLS gasket with 8620 ARP hardware instead of a MLX gasket and 625 ARP hardware. ie cut corners at 28 psi of boost, The blown “fuse” ruined the block and the head.

Here's a dumb question from someone who's not familiar with C85. Do you still need to test it?

The last pass on my car was a 9.1 at 150 mph on 12 degrees. It was the first pass on the DragPak 4-link rear that involved changing the fuel system to a external pump and regulator to go with the fuel cell. Being the first time on track with that new stuff we wanted to be very cautious and get some data on how (if) it was going to work. It did just fine but the car was so down on power it felt like I wasn’t even flooring it.

Ya I only made an injector change but I was wanting to make sure fuel pumps were holding up to the flow.
like you said right after 300ft the car felt like it just fell off. Crazy saying that abojt 9 second cars 😂

My point is something caused that not just boost. I saw a story on a build they used cosmetic gaskets on and it went lean. This motor didn't blow a head gasket but took out a bunch of pistons and had to fix a cylinder

Here’s my results, first pull 19 degrees up top, second pull 20.5 up top and 1 degree added everywhere from 3200 up, 22-22.5 psi of boost. Spun on the dyno top of the second pull, numbers exceeded my expectations and I was out of injector (ID1300X2) and pump (twin 295’s) so there was no point in tweaking for any more. MUCH THANKS to @jonx96 for his help getting to these numbers. There’s more in it yet just need more injector next.

Can proudly display the 1000 HP badge now and those ugly hose ends gone replaced with AN fittings.

What fuel were you running on those pulls?

From the Sheets gas station pump Flex Fuel testing around 82%.
I stocked up on it to the other day before the E % starts going down.

I’m taking a trip to Mike’s garage and he can show this old dog how to do all that $hit!
