I think people do it to help with a smoother idle if they are running a big cam and can’t get the idle right with blade position.

It’s a tuner hack if they don’t want to spend time getting idle right. We may try to work around it. Really want the 112 over 108.

I may not see enough of a difference on an IHI but there will for sure be one at your level with your guy at keyboard.

The 112 also doesn't seem to have nearly the issues the other ones do.

That is an old IAC (idle air controller) work around... If you can't crack the blade enough to supplement the IAC without too much air getting past that monster blade, then put a hole in it.

If it idles better with the hole... let us know 😂
Oh I will. I want the 112 and I think we’ll make it work. Nick Williams said I can send in for a blade replacement.

Well....

I’ll be providing some data Monday hopefully. Been an interesting week to say the least in regards to testing.

I saw some glimpses of your car in their story on the book of faces.

I'm eagerly awaiting results. I went ported blower instead but if the motor gets built I'll be right behind you...

...literally...since I'm pretty much unintentionally copying your build step by step. Lol

Ported Magnuson 2650 data:
I am all about sharing data as you know, we decided to try out a ported 2650 in place of my un-ported 2650. My setup is a forged stock C.I. bottom, stock heads, mmx HC1 cam, headers, 108tb, and full 3" exhaust. We went in thinking this would be an easy 50+ rwhp gain plug and play. What we didn't expect was to go the other direction with power. The consensus was potential of too much port for the setup. I strongly recommend that before you go down the road of porting, have a long conversation about what the expected outcomes for your particular setup will be. I am the first to provide this data publicly as far as I know and I hope it helps those who have these 2650's decide if it's the way to go. I've only heard quietly that these ports have made big power on 376c.i. setups, I know they have cranked out quite a bit of power on the 4xx motors, but for my particular setup, it was a no go.
The goal was to make bigger power with less pulley thrown at the blower, but we had to pulley down even more just to attempt to equal the power. We did do that, but had to drop to a 3.0 pulley with max rear overdrives to make 1hp more and use my "lighter" timing race tune to reach that goal. The decision was then made to put the old 2650 back on.

First graph below shows:
Red line un-ported 2650, blue line ported 2650.

Second graph below shows:
Blue line un-ported 2650 with 3.25 pulley and a lot of belt slip that was resolved, but you can see where power is going. Red line is ported 2650 with 3.0 pulley.
The rwhp lost and torque lost was quite surprising, but we have the data now and hopefully it's helpful to the group.

Wow 40 ponies down and 90 torque on that first pull. That's unacceptable for a ported loss..

Agreed.

Since I was there, I now will run the .25 smaller pulley full time and use a very aggressive tune for it when I do track duty. We have a little timing pulled out for pump E.

So what would be some causes of this? With an engine being an air pump and all. I could see it making the same power, but surprised at a loss. That would mean a loss in efficiency, some kind of bad turbulence, something like that?

More drama when I was test fitting parts lol.

Looks like my Maggie found a little metal friend. From the casing cast 🤷🏼‍♂️ No clue. Maggie doesn’t seem too concerned. I’m going to turn it by hand when I can to see if I hear anything, but the blower doesn’t sound different and makes proper boost.

My 108mm took a crap on the ride home so I went to test fit my 112 again. It fits now. Hopefully working towards getting this to be “it”. Have a replacement 108 on now until we can adjust the idle/drive tune a bit.

Is that scoring in the blower? Looks serious in the pic at least.

The 108 died?

That's no fun.

I'm hoping I have better luck.
