Airing up a beadlock

Miracle. With the use of two breaker bars, some wd40, some cussing and remnants of my strength as a younger man I got the tire on the rim. But it is not setting against the beadlock of the wheel. Does it need just a super fast rush of air from a professional installation place or is there something I can do to make it seal against the beadlock? Then use my electric air pump?

You need to clamp it in. I took mine to a tire shop that has experience mounting them.

You need an air compressor. Spray the whole anode head with a lot of soapy water. Hook it up, and then blast 80+ psi at it. It’ll pop and scare the crap out of you. I mounted mine at home. 17” or 150?

all those bolts on the ring have to come off and you have to sandwich the tire between the wheel and the beadlock ring, bolt the ring back on over the tire, pinching it, and air them. Should have gone easy… you didn’t take the beadlock ring off

Woah!!!!!! You mount the outer bead between the ring and the outside of the wheel. That’s what “locks” the bead of the tire so it can’t slip. The inner bead seals on the inside of the wheel. Remove the ring and pull the tire bead over the lip so that it is on the outside. Then place the ring over the bead and tighten. Get the torque specs used for that wheel.

I now see with reading glasses on there is the bead of the wheel itself and the bead of the ring. I did not have the tire over the bead of the wheel. So screwing on the ring obviously was not going to work. As Marc says that creates the sandwich. 🥪 so off with the ring and into the tire shop to get the tire over the wheel bead.

I took the bead off and I know exactly what to do. But I will not be doing that. A tire place with a rotating wheel as they put in a flat bar will be able to put it on the bead within a minute. I tried. It is not happening.

I took the bead off and I know exactly what to do. But I will not be doing that. A tire place with a rotating wheel as they put in a flat bar will be able to put it on the bead within a minute. I tried. It is not happening.
A lot of tire places won’t do beadlocks. I made little aluminum tabs to hold the tire on wheel as I worked it around with 2 tire irons. L tabs with a hole in them. Get a part on, put one of the beadlock bolts through a tab holding down that part of the tire, and so on. It’s a pain, 17s are the worst. Mickeys are stiff and the inside diameter is a bit too small

I made these out of a 2”x8’ strip of aluminum I got from Lowe’s. You get one part of the tire on the need, then put the tab on (in any hole for the beadlock ring with the bolt for the ring. Keep working your way around, putting another tab on 1/4 of the tire. They hold the tire on the head so it doesn’t pop off when you work your way around and stretch. Once the tire is on all the way, I won’t pop off the bead. Remove tabs, screw on ring - done

I used various sizes of washers with my beadlock bolts to assist in holding the tire on the flange where it needed to be while I worked the rest of it around in a circle progressively using more washers and bolts to hold it in place.

Getting the inside bead to seat was freaking simple. Once the outer bead was sitting on the flange and the beadlock ring in place and torqued all I had to do was air it up as normal.

It will easily take a first-timer almost 2 hours to do a full set. Because you will literally be screaming at everything in sight. The second time around you'll cut that time in half.

We did the 15" beadlocks on my project car. It was a slow, methodic process, but went fairly easy for the first ever mounting some. The guys who helped me, run circle-track cars...so it's a cake-walk for them. I had to slow them down, as they normally work with steel and HD stuff.
This car is old school, so I went with the plainest bead-lock I could find. I sent my Bogarts to Neil and Parks. They did a beautiful job, and had them back in less than 2 weeks, total time.
