Good point, my math did not consider investing it. I'll keep crunching numbers, thanks!
Well guys, I retired 12/31/18 and have absolutely ZERO regrets doing so. I started taking SS at age 62 and I turned 62 at the very end of 2018. Reduced benefits but, I was determined to get what I could as long as I could. Once you die, your SS benefits are gone. Your spouse gets NOTHING and your lifetime of giving to SS goes to the next guy. Sure, I might live to a point where I would have made out better taking benefits later but, one in the hand is better than two in the bush and at my age, your lucky if you see the bush...

This being said, retirement gives you the time benefits you just can't appreciate until you actually do it. Just about your entire life, you have probably done things abiding to someone else's schedule as it was for me. School, elementary, middle, high, college.... work, work, work,... idiot bosses, assholes, pricks, back stabbers, people you wouldn't talk to if circumstances were different consuming time from your life's happiness... Political correctness everywhere... you name it. All BULLSH*T.

Now I wake up when I want and do what I want, whenever I want and don't answer to anyone (except the wife, yes dear).

As far as taking the SS benefits early / immediately at 62, I make up the difference easily daytrading making at least $1000 a week on average. This is something I would not have been able to do easily if I was still working. Of course, this income makes 100% of the SS payments taxable but, that's a problem I will learn to live with. An additional side benefit to taking the SS early is the opportunity it gives you to save more and preserve your income investments. Last year was somewhat extraordinary for investment gains but, outperforming the reduced benefits should remain a breeze for most that do it right.

Advise to the young... get into the stock market, invest in things you know, and don't believe everything you hear from analysts. Invest in ROTH accounts early if you can. Backdoor ROTHs if your income becomes to great. Avoid the taxman wherever and whenever possible. It's all a game but, it's the best game in town.

I've been doing bands in PT, I was just trying to push harder... though you're right, maybe pushing harder isn't the approach.

For sure... try doing a push-up with significant straightening, a tear in the cord, and bulging discs in your neck, or the same with pull-ups when the pain shoots through your shoulders. Crunches/sit-ups? I can't even lay on the floor, let alone repeatedly. I can't hang my head over the counter while I'm reading mail, so hanging it out over the floor for push-ups makes me see stars.

I agree with the above - it starts and ends with diet, if you can't get that right, you won't make much progress. My biggest problem? being miserable all day and finding joy in very few things... food and drink being 2 of them. Moderation, moderation, moderation... that's where I need the most work I think.

On rare occasions I'll take 1600mg of Ibuprofen so that I can move, but I don't take anything on a regular basis, and even then its usually after the tears start forming.
I feel for you. That’s rough! I know several people, including my wife, that have had a lot of success losing weight on the Keto diet. I’m personally not a fan of diets, but it works for a lot of people. Just cutting down on carbs can have big benefits. Your exercise regimen will need a very knowledgeable trainer.

WOW! That'a horrendous ADM! I thought it was bad that my local dealer was adding on anything to the price of the car. I think sticker price for anything is too high, and I sure ain't interested in paying over that...for any car. Knowing back then that I could get Turbo Regal in the $16k range nicely equipped, or a GN for just a bit more....there wasn't anyway I was giving that dealer over $30k for that GNX. Hel, I could've bought two Regals for that money...one to drive....and one to drive the hell out of :)

You are now in command of the most precious commodity on earth...YOUR TIME...you get a finite amount...and not a minute more...and now you have the luxury to spend it as you see fit...I commend you...and envy you...you did good...

Hmmm... I walked into the gym today and the trainer and I set up a little arm over arm strongman 500lb sled pull on the turf. Looks kind of like this (except without a car at the end of the rope):

Most people in the gym just stopped working out to watch (#trendsetterfitnessdork). I determined the weight was light or the distance was too short; we'll see how I feel in the morning (LOL I'm old) and adjust next week (LOL at old people recovery time). After that I did some close grip bench press, deadlifts, weighted pull ups, and some lat pull downs. Gotta keep building that old man strength - my Grumps (Mom's Dad) always seemed like the strongest man in the world to me and was one helluva inspiration. It is never too late to start, gents.

"...old people recovery time". You ain't just whistling Dixie. I started doing daily calisthenics about 4 weeks ago...cuz well....I needed to do something to start reducing the damage I've caused since I got off my last flight from the Middle East. Let me tell you that the first week wasn't bad. The second week I was feeling like I had been whomped with a knotted plow line (fans of The Outlaw Josey Wales will get that one) in places I forgot I had. By the middle of week 3 the pain started to subside, and so far in week 4 I think I'm on the beneficial side of the equation.

you know! I prefer a location with open bar happy hour. But most of these guys gotta be in bed before 8pm to catch that Matlock rerun.

That's why all the cars and coffee, and car shows are all done by 1 pm. Gotta get that nap in before dinner
