Onstar and those other services already have this capability. I don't have any of those services, and I have my wifi and those data sharing apps in the vehicle turned off. I'm not going to make it easy for them.
I can see this country becoming like Cuba with hordes of old ICE cars being kept in running condition for decades, only here it will be to avoid the EV's and systems like this invasive crap ! Eventually, they will outlaw & crush all of the old cars, but I'll be long dead by then.

I'm already looking at mid 80's to early 90's 5.0 Fords that are in good condition for just the reasons you mention above. They are easy to work on, they are easy to troubleshoot.

OMG....the last one of those I had was an '87 Horizon. It was a good little commuter car, but you weren't gonna win any "cool car" prizes in that thing. I sold it to someone who needed a first car for their high school kid.

I paid $120 for that Horizon, put about $250 into it and sold it for $500. I ran that thing all over the place for the 6 or so months that I had it. It got slightly better mileage than my Ram 2500 Cummins at the time.

My dad had one. Chrysler replaced the engine at 62,000 under warranty. He gave it one on my sons to commute to college. Two years later (after a transmission rebuild) my son gave it to his brother’s fiancé because her clapped out Civic died. She sold it to one of my friend’s nieces to take to college. Was still going strong. No idea as to its ultimate fate.

Is this the Clarksville area??? Oh boy. Bad time to move there, time of year. I still have frost bite scares for spending 3 winters there. Nice Austin Pea campus and a cold ass river that runs thru town. I worked there and had a girl friend at Ft Campell and went home to the wife every 2 weeks. Had a Dodge Dart with bald tires in the snow. Very nice college town. There more than likely not even a H/C in town. Until??
