HATE paste

Love using the yellow "gas" thread tape, seals much better than the typical white shit.

More than anything, starting with fittings that aren't shit to begin with is key.

Nothing is guaranteed to leak better than putting fittings from two different China suppliers together.

What kind of fittings are you sealing? You don’t use it with brass fittings…

There was already an aluminum 1” not fitting on the return side with the white paste and it appeared to seal good, but it was 1” male to 3/4 female npt - I’m changing the fittings on the tank to AN fittings for a different pump and on the return side. This is a PNR ice tank

Paste isn't horrible if it is truly and forever a permanent installation, AND you know to start 1-2 threads from the end (pipe fitter/industry standard practice) such that you don't extrude paste/tape into the female fitting as you thread it in.

If you're asking for a particular brand, I haven't ever focused on that aspect.

Gasolia. I am now a hard core paste fan. I never liked the mess but this spring I replaced the well tank and all the rusty iron pipes with clean shiny Chinese brass. I used tape and a week later I had to take it all apart because it was dripping all over. I used paste, and everything is now dry as a bone! Never using tape again unless it is something very easily re-fixable.

My theory is that the pressure pushes the paste into the voids causing it to plug any potential leaks.

It’s used on all ice tanks that have NPT fittings. I think @Marc W even used it on his original ice box

Never use tape on brass fittings not even non-Chinese ones.

I guess I’m not thinking apples to apples? I always assumed brass to brass was self sealing and never sealed any carb fittings and never had any leaks. There was definitely no sealant on any carb fuel line fittings from the factory but they were sealing steel fuel lines with flared ends. I realize it’s only with the flare fittings you don’t need sealant. Same with brake lines.

Blue Monster. I use exclusively for my line of work. Works all the time. Dope/Tape/Dope if it absolutely can't leak.

No npt fittings are material to material fitting, also need to use a sealer. Something’s plastic npt will seal to metal, but should always use a sealer
