Hurricanes....and the floods they cause...are 100 times worse that any snow or weather related issues up North...don't agree..??? just look what you pay for insurance..(if you can even get it)

I thought you guys had something in place for safety inspections. Most cars I see over there have doors, fenders, lights, and most of the glass. Not like 50 years ago!

They rust from the inside now, at least frame vehicles like trucks and Jeeps. Maybe some wheel openings, rockers and cab corners, but the bad stuff is the salt and sand that gets trapped in the nooks and cranys of the frame and cause huge structural probs. Why I sold the TJ and 03 Silverado. I wanted to keep them forever but it was not practical.

Quick check without a reader to see if it's in ready state or not, turn the car on without starting it. If the check engine light starts flashing after 10-15 seconds, it's not ready. If it stays solid, it's ready.

Checked today, 125mi and still flashing!!! Then it hit me! It needed a WOT. Couple blasts and now it's happy!!!!

Moral of the story: HC's are not happy unless they see WOT to redline!!!

BTW: When it is happy, it gives you one bing instead of flashing.

I have house insurance and it's easily attainable, but I'm north Florida. My insurance is about $1500, but there is no city, county or state tax, which more than makes up the additional cost of home insurance, by hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars.

Where ever you live, there are problems with weather. Back in Ohio we had a blizzard, many, many, many years ago, numerous people died, terrible devastation. Also, Tornado's every spring/summer, I know, as I seen first hand, how awful. The big bonus, living in Florida are year round cruise-ins, car shows and our Redeye gets exercise every week, year round!!!

Bottom line, you have to decide where you want to live, everyone is different. I've known folks that live in northern Alaska and loved it! I don't understand that, but I'm glad their happy!

True. We've had very little rain this spring, and it's been quite hot lately- close to 80.

But at least the humidity is low and there are no alligators, pythons, etc. Not even rattle snakes.

There is one HUGE difference you've all overlooked !! In MI you have to live in a place where there is an evil, soulless demon bitch in the Governors mansion !! There are also the high property taxes + state income taxes!

I'd much rather deal with the occasional hurricane than any of that !

The Wizard of Oz movie centered around a tornado, not a hurricane. When a tornado strikes, you may have seconds to seek shelter or flee, with a hurricane, much longer, possibly days. I know, I have seen both. Neither scenario is good, but survival is better, in a hurricane, with the advanced warning. That being said, I hope to never see a tornado or hurricane, again...
