I was playing golf with some friends two weeks ago and we all thought we saw an animal that sure looked like a wolf from about 300 feet away. It was a residential area just East of Fruitland Park, FL. It must have been a fox but its color was too dark, almost black, for a fox and it looked a lot bigger than a fox. It slinked off slowly into a dense brush. People in any area around here do not let their dogs run loose so it was definitely a wild animal. On the other hand, here is some info I found:
The Florida black wolf (Canis lupus floridanus) is a subspecies of gray wolf that lived in Florida that was originally extinct in 1934 due to crowding out of its habitat and hunting, but has since been brought back from extinction by SciiFii and reintroduced throughout the open woodlands of Central and Northeast ... the Florida black wolf is a protected animal and its populations are making a comeback. We have coyotes and foxes, very similar heads and color, and at a distance it can be difficult to tell them apart. The best way to tell is a coyote (and I assume wolf also) have a tail like a large dog where the tip of the tail almost touches the ground. The Fox has shorter legs but still a full length tail such that almost half the tail can touch the ground like a cat.

Speaking of body parts.

Yesterday I found a deer leg behind the house. Went to get it today, figuring it could be used for deer leg soup, but it was gone.

Seems like the mountain lion a neighbor saw the other day is still hanging around.
One night we heard the coyotes whooping it up having a party. Next day we took a walk and found what was all about. I kept stopping by every week or two. Coyotes took all the flesh they could, then the crows and mice got the rest. Slowly the bones were carried off and all that was left was fur (hairs) over the entire area. Then that all disappeared, probably into bird and mouse nests. Nature takes care of itself just fine.

Lesson of this story is that hunting is not a cruel sport, every animal dies. Some are shot, die quickly and eaten by humans. The rest are chased by predators, eventually caught, then torn apart and eaten until they die. No animal falls asleep and dies of old age. Nature is incredibly cruel.

BTW: It is great that this thread could be hijacked and made useful!

We're talking wolves. Big, nasty wolves.
The tail had a similar shape to a fox but bigger. We should start another thread. IMG_9576.png

BTW: Since eating meat is the same as eating second hand veggies (or grass), then isn't eating gator the same as eating second hand human?

He's a circling kind of guy. Just keeps coming back with the same thing. Time for him to broaden himself some.

Good thing, I'd hate to think they eat golden retrievers, farm animals and unlucky people!

They take big stuff and put it on the bottom until it starts rotting so you can usually find the bodies. Now an arm, they will swallow.

Big ones will. Little ones will try or take your leg. I stay away from them.

One of my cameras caught this last fall. If you expand it and watch the far end of the driveway you will see a doe chasing the bobcat. There was a loud altercation just before this event, my guess is the doe had fawns and went into defense mode.
