I had the best day racing EVER this weekend and if I didn't experience it myself I wouldn't have believed it !
I race maybe once a year and I have been working on my daughter's car trying to get it solid into the 13.00's. She says 14.0's were not fast enough.
Because of an injury she wasn't able to actually race the car, so I ran it to test my changes. The car is a '67 Dart with a mild 340 and a 727 auto. We have an annual Mopar event we race with a close group of friends every year - so I ran it for her.
We started in time trials and the second pass it ran a best of 13.66, so I was pleased with the changes.

The group of friends included 4 cars - three in my class and a fourth in another class. Of course the bantering was on with us going for the win and placing 1 - 2 - 3, the only disagreement being who would be in which place...

I Lined up in the first round of eliminations and it ran a 13.715 on a 13.70 dial and the other racer redlit - so it was a good start for me: IMG_1136.jpeg
My lite wasn't stellar, but it was good enough.

The second round lined me up against one of the track's team members - it ended up being that he was competing in two brackets where he had just beat my buddy that competing in another class at the event, so I knew I wasn't running against another rookie...

But the racing gods were with me and I ran him out the other end - he took the lite, but he broke out by a couple hundredths where I ran a 13.701 to a 13.70 dial with a lite that matched his was good enough... he got the finish line, but I got the win.

The third round pitted me against a previous track champion that has taken me and a number of friends out in previous races, so I knew my chances were slim and I had to run a good pass to stay in it. My daughter reminded me - just do what you did in the previous round... yeah right!
I lined up and and knew I had to cut a good lite and make a good run:

I don't know how I did it but it was probably the pass of a lifetime at just the right time - I had cut a .007 lite with a 13.708 run on a 13.70 dial and even though he clipped me at the finish line he had to break out to do - I had just put the track champion on the trailer!!! Let's just say if the day ended there I would go home happy!!

Coming out of round Three and beating the track champion gave me a bye in the next round (Four) - what a day! Going into the staging lanes I was met by the two other buddies in the same class - we all made it semi finals with Three of the remaining Five cars left - even though I had a bye the other Two were now lined up against each other in the bracket, but the winner got a bye into the final.

the Fifth round lined me up against winner of the remaining two cars - all I needed was one more win to put me into the final round:

My luck held and even though I ran a 13.665 on a 13.70 dial he redlit at the starting line and my buddy and I were pitted against each other in the final.

The Final round was a wild one, we both came around expecting a small break to cool the cars, but they called us before allowing much of a cool down - my car launched good but coughed pretty good somewhere about the 330 ft mark and I wasnt able to catch him - it looked like I would have to settle for Second place...

We had both lined up looking for bragging rights but just one of us being in the Final was more than we could have hoped for at the start of the day. We both took off and I was more focused on catching him before the finish line and I didn't even look for the board (for the win lite) until we had past it - he had gotten there first but I got the win due to a redlite. Not just a redlite but a .001 redlite - my .002 greenlite put our margin at the starting line to just .003 between us.

Like I said this was the best day racing ever...

Can anyone top this?
