per gallon. you'd need almost 4 quarts of Premium to raise a full tank of 93 up over 100 octane

or 1 quart of Boostane Pro will turn 18.5 gallons of 93 into 18.5 gallons of 101-102

Dan, fellow NY’er here. From what I understand using that stuff can be detrimental to your cats so if you’ve got to pass nys inspection that can be a problem. Someone else who’s more familiar with the product will chime in.

I used Torco MMT additive (The same basic stuff as Boostane) for a summer once, 2, sometimes 3 oz per gallon pretty much all summer when unleaded race fuel was unavailable, and my conclusion is that it is good in a pinch but don't run it all the time, if at all. My plugs and sensors all had a brown/orange heavy fuzzy looking build up and it was quite un-nerving and unusual looking. But no worry, they will clean up over time if you quit using the stuff. From this experience I would have suggest that it would be much wiser in IMO to purchase 5 gallon pails of Renegade RM109 Unleaded (103.5 RM/2) or VP Motorsport 109 (104 RM/2) (not the 109e) to spike the octane as necessary. I found that mixing 1 gallon of the VP MS 109 with 6 gallons of 93 BP in my area, and it is a local thing, showed 0 detonation on my Hellcat. Use only a Top Tier factory recommended fuel as per the manual for best results and it doesn't recommend additives. But, we have to use them anyhow sometimes in a pinch like I said. It will pay dividends in the long haul to purchase a scantool if you do not already have one such as an Aeroforce Interceptor set to platform 2 which suction cups to the corner of the windshield using an Autometer mount, or a Diablosport T2 MX (monitor only) so you can monitor ST KNOCK and stay out of detonation. Don't use any more octane than necessary to keep the ST knock on 0 in a stock application for best results I found..If your car is a '17 or older, an old Diablo T1000 will work to read ST knock and they are probably pretty cheap. It will not connect to my 2019, or a 2018. Hope this helps.

And I might add while I am at it for the people who have not studied the matter, watching the fuel is an actual time consuming job in itself. We have too much power to overlook this. Sure, we have knock sensors that pick up on detonation, but once it happens, you cannot take it back. It is cumulative to the fatigue of just about everything that goes up and down and around in an engine. What you do now could come back to bite in 2 years. Like tapping on a block of ice with a ball peen hammer, it will look fine and go for a long time, and then without notice it will abruptly split in 2 pieces. Not tomorrow, or even in 6 months or a year, or 3 years...but eventually.

Keep in mind 10% typical unleaded goes away much faster than std no alcohol gasoline. When you pull the car out of storage in the spring that gas is most likely shot, but will seem to drive around fine. Run it low, mix in a couple gallons of good stuff, take it easy and repeat the process a couple or 3 times. I found that the 93 around here will start to deteriorate in a month, and it pretty much on its way to being shot in 3 months.

There are too many variables to consider when you fill up at an unknown gas station. How long has the premium been sitting in their tanks ? It doesn't get used as much as 87 don't forget. And then every once in a while you get a greedy station owner that cheats on the octane, or the tanker driver is new and put the 87 in the 93 tank which happened a couple of times in 10 years around here. Or the guy who mixes the fuel at the distributor has a bad hangover.....

It is a job in itself watching the fuel, and if you like your car and want to keep everything optimum, stay on top of it. Always have an ST knock readout where you can see it is my advice, and that is written in stone.

From someone who has burned pistons, blown headgaskets, made more mistakes than 5 people in the early years and created a lot of my own grief. I didn't have mentors or the internet or much to go by in those days.

When your wallet starts to hurt, it drives a few points home. But an education has its price....

If only there was a way to avoid all of those issues? Perhaps a high octane petroleum gas that is readily available in liquid form anywhere you buy gasoline, chips and Monster?

Man, wouldn't that be convenient?

Wide-bands and knock sensors saved the world. I wonder, at least around here, how many modern big power cars are showing long-term knock stored.

I switched to Octanium Unleaded this season and like it so far. Proven knock suppression via data logging knock sensor bolts. Cat and O2 sensor safe, doesn’t foul plugs. 1 QT at 22$ raises a tank of 93 to about 100 octane.
I’ve used Boostane before and was sold on Octanium with a bad tank of gas that Boostane didn’t help STK but a qt of Octanium took knock sensor volts from 1890 millivolts to 1300 millivolts, SOLD. I still use TORCO in my NOS Capri but no sensors or cats to worry about on it

O, BTW making 860 rwhp on 93 at 17.5 psi of boost on a 2,85 Litens with a qt of Octanium for insurance, the data says it all. I test all kinds of products, this one gets 5 stars

That is good info but the can says treats 10 gals. So at 19 gal our Challengers would need two ($44 or almost 2) at a fill up. You use one in a tank and have that success your showing? (1890 millivolt down to 1300 on knock sensors) or you add to 1/2 tank @10 gals.?

Yes, one qt at fill up, usually about 12-14 gallons, so probably 97-98 in the tank with repeated use.

Are you saying the VP didn't leave the orange film on the plugs? You pulled plugs and inspected?

Was there any film at all??

@16GoManGoHC2 you don't show timing advance in your posted logs, how much is it? What was different on the dyno pulls going from 806 to 856?

Winter blend Shell 93 I had to drop my timing down to 10 deg at max aircharge ~1800mg (about 17.5psi). During summer months on summer blend Shell 93 I had it set to 12 deg.

Added FAS inlet plate to my blower, netted 50 Hp gain, unfortunately it cost me my original blower as the plates are flawed and FAS won’t admit to fault, claims installation error. I just bought another plate, their bearing bores are .003” tighter then they should be. Come to find out I’m not the only one that got one like this.
See this thread on the other site

Yes, pulled plugs, very minimal residue, dropped exhaust too, minimal in there too.
