Hi guys!
As some of you know, I’m waiting for my 2020 HC WB challenger to arrive and be delivered.
Like many of you, I’d like to ceramic coat it while new so I don’t have to go through the cost of Paint corrections, polishes etc.
Obviously, many detailers tell me “you wouldn’t imagine the shape some paints are in even on new cars”, I guess they wanna sell, but I’m pretty sure not all new paints are delivered in pristine shape...
I asked the dealer not to touch the car, not to wash it or remove anything.
How did you guys managed this part? Did your new car needed Paint correction?

Thanks for your help in advance!

My car was about what you would expect. She was in the showroom, but had been washed by a minimum age lot boy. There were 3 scratches in the paint, the worst on the roof molding just above the driver door. Sure looks like a power washer hose rub mark to me, but who knows. Second worse is on the black plastic below the decklid. That looks like a wipe mark with a dirty rag and I know it scratches very easily. As far as other paint blemishes its a normal mass produced car. Mine has slight orange peel, and I have found 2 pieces of dirt under the paint. It bugs me, but I try to remember its not a hand built $3 million dollar car either.

I bought out of state and made it very clear that if there were any dealer stickers, or a front license plate bracket installed I would be walking away from the deal. They kept that crap off my car luckily. Also told them I wanted all the papers left in the car. Glad I did as they said they normally toss out the build sheets as trash since normal people don't want them. Most scary moment was when I asked for my temp tag so I could drive it home. Sales guy walks out with my paper tag and battery powered impact driver in hand. He said "sorry I forgot to get that for you, but ill screw it on for you real quick". I about had a heart attack thinking of a sales guy taking an impact screw driver anywhere near my paint and installing screws in the plastic with it! Told him thanks, but I would take care of it.

Lol, I know our cars are not handmade exotics, but still, I’m just as picky as you are, and I know people think I’m the biggest PIA of the century, but I don’t care .

Yep, most of us on here are on the same page about the degree of being anal on our cars. Would be nice if the people we have to deal with to get them were on the same page, but in my experience and thru that of friends its just not the way it is. A friend told me about his experience spending $92K on a Redeye, and he was treated the same as a guy would be buying a $22K small SUV. In my opinion Dodge needs to have the sales guys up their game especially for the people that buy the flagship cars.

Best of luck to you, and post pics of that beast when she shows up! Oh and don't forget to remove the splitter guard first:cool:

Mine was never dealer washed and picked up at 9 miles. I washed it once before ceramic coating. Took it to a very reputable detailer and he had 3 days of paint correction. He said that the paint was insanely soft and took time to get it right. Looks amazing now.

Don't forget the PPF on the flares! :)

My '15 not only came with a $700 dent in the passenger door, that paint required hours of corrections, and never was right.

The '19 Redeye, is much, much better. It had a couple of marks/scratches on my door, but was really in good shape overall IMO. Probably due to the new paint booth at Brampton. The past few weeks after one year I clayed-polished-double waxed it. I am very happy with the finish, fit and paint.

Like others have said, tell the dealer to leave the washing to us, because usually they unfortunately have people wash and prep the cars that need much more instruction before they begin washing and wiping new paint.

My Dealer has a couple of older guys that detail the cars who have been there “forever”. My 15 HC and 19 REWB had no paint problems but they did spot a “dent” on the RE passenger door. I knelt down wearing my glasses and really would never have spotted it. Paintless Dent guy took care of it and then I actually inspected it with a magnifying glass - still couldnt see it!

I did have the RE flares clear wrapped after I clay barred the whole car. No paint correction.

Mine had a couple of paint chips on driver door, about 6 to 8 inches up from bottom.
Small, but noticeable. They had someone come out. I thought they were going to do a correction. Lol, they used touch up paint.

On the serious note to answer your question. I bought my car two days after it came off the truck...only because it was raining the day after it was delivered and I didn't want to drive around the DC beltway in the rain.....those people can't drive in 70 degrees and sunny.
So....my car hadn't had time to sit on the dealer lot and get weathered for an extended period of time.
I would say that the paint was in great condition, and I waxed it the second day I had it. I didn't see the need for any type of paint correction, etc right away....but that's me.

Similar to Stormtrooper1320. Had some little yellow specs on paint (rail rust) that came out with Iron X. Probably should have polished after purchase...but sealant it has been since new. I occasionally see some minor paint scratches but only when the sun hits it at a certain angle...otherwise really hard to see.
