Reminds me of a recruiter pestering me a while back...asking if I had interest in a job in Irvine at a supplier / competitor of ours. I told her in all seriousness, "even if the starting comp. package was $1 Million per year, not anywhere enough to even think about moving there..." And it would have went right up there to infinity $ and I would not go to that Commie shithole at any price.

I had the misfortune of having to live there for 5 years in the late 70's and early 80's while serving in the military. I would not go back if it were raining money!

I remember when he started the interview. My first statement was well, I hope you folks begin to pay more than $100k/yr, JUST TO GET ME EVEN FOR HOUSING. Obviously I got to suffer here in MN, not even an offer.

Pretty much the same thing I experienced in 87/88 when I was looking in CA. Had friends living in Beverly Hills (they are Dr.'s) and it was nice there, but not something I could remotely afford. I went as far south as Oceanside looking for affordable homes & it was the same everywhere I looked. Houses packed in on postage stamp lots that cost 2 - 3x what my place (on a lake) in MI was valued at. Wages were maybe 1/3 more, but not nearly enough to cover the COLA there. Then there was the seemingly endless expanse of concrete they call LA & burbs. Even during mid-day I-5 moved at a crawl and my eyes & throat were burning from the pollution. Mentioned that to my friends and they blew it off with "Oh, you get used to that here" -- NOT !!!

All valid reasons why NOT to live in that shit hole state...even in the 70's/80's
