weird start-up noise...

Since I bought my 2023 Cat, it has twice had a rattling/kinda sheet-metal-exhaust? sound at start-up. Both times, it shut itself down. Happened yesterday, in my garage. The other was when it was pulled out of the dealer, new. I restarted it at the dealer from inside the car. I tried to restart remotely, yesterday. Nothing. I haven't gone out today to try. It only has 300 miles or so, on it.

Sheet-metal rattling noises are never good...the fact it's intermittent is worse...

It could be the actuators in the active exhaust system, along with rattling, they can squeak or chirp at you too sometimes.

With freezing temperatures and short startups, it's possible for water in the exhaust to pool and make the actuators stick? Just a theory, never heard of it happening but if you haven't run the car long enough to clear condensation from the exhaust, it could be possible?
Was the dealer startup also in freezing temps?

Thanks. Neither start was in "cold" weather. It was 50-60's in December[when I picked it up], and my car storage area is always 50 degrees. Somehow, I think it does sound exhaust related. Fired perfectly this morning.

When I read OP's post this is exactly my thought, wife's 2016 does it occasionally. Haven't heard our 2018 do it, Yet!

What's the explanation for the shut down...

Make sure all the exhaust bolts are tight. Mine rattled a little at start up at one point till I tightened them down.

The two times it's happened, are 9 weeks apart. You can do better.....LOL
