Smaller, simpler, more features. Definitely worth the upgrade.

It's funny you doing a video about this upgrade ... I was just looking into doing it myself .

Keep in mind speedy you will still want to use the USB cable for data logging as the wireless won't give you much data.

Yeah, I am not sold on the MVPI2; seems like an unnecessary upgrade (bluetoof for bluetoof's sake). The nightmares shops experienced when they launched the MVPI2 are well documented on their forum. The headaches associated with HP Tuners user based beta testing really grinds on a fella after awhile.

Their efforts should be pushed toward accessibility and creating Closed Loop operating systems for popular existing platforms that don't currently have them. My future LS swaps will include a Holley system over being subject to whatever parameters HP Tuners will allow me to have access too.

The problem that worries me is like all companies they will just discontinue and stop support of the MPVI out of the blue and leave use stranded .

True. But as of this moment it still works on my current fleet right up to my 2019 HC, and that won't change. Future platforms are becoming less and less palatable to modify as the OS are becoming more complex; and I really have limited interest in modifying them this includes my HC (in seven years I'll consider it). I am past the top of my tuning interest bell-curve at this stage in life.

I could make a literal killing tuning basic LS swaps in my area using the MVPI I have - so why spend another $400+ for an upgrade to continue to suffer with the HP Tuners MVPI shitty credit model? There are too many MVPIs out there in the average Joe's tool box to risk losing all that sweet sweet credit money.

PS. The Tuning School has the best everyday credit pricing I have seen to date.

I agree with you and I have no issues tuning my car and I have no plans to ever tune other peoples cars . It just in the back of my mind about the discontinuing and loss of support in the future .

Plus I had Bluetooth once . It's an awful dental disease.

I'm not a pro tuner so credit issues weren't a consideration for me. Don't credits you've purchased transfer over when you buy one of these? I think there's also a credit for sending in an old MPVI but with it being what I consider cheap I'd probably just keep it. The MPVI I've been using actually belongs to Crew Chief Greg so we'll keep using it on his car for tunes since the credits are on there for his. We'll use the MPVI2 for data logging though.

I've been using the MPVI2 for about 3 months and not one hiccup and I data log and have been changing tunes A LOT so if there were beta problems I guess they fixed them before going production. I've not tried blue tooth yet but folks have commented on the video that it works well for data logging so I'm gonna try it today and see for myself.

The only thing I don't like about HPT is you have to have a computer in the car to log. I'd rather something small on the windshield I can keep an eye on (like a cell phone) as a display. I'm told something is in the works but it's way over due IMO.

Ok tested BT yesterday. No bueno. Connected up ok and all but the lag in PID reading from the channel list made the log unusable.

@Speedy!

My understanding is that the clipping you reference is due to a total bandwidth limitation of the external portion of the OBD-II port. Each PID obviously requires bandwidth and the port is limited, so if you have two many, latency will occur.

(It's not the connected device)

The internal buss is not limited in this way, but we don't have access to it.

like my mvpi2 but i hate the data cable I have had to replace 3 already they are bad at breaking internally where it goes into the mvpi2 ,I keep extras in the car

heres a question I moved mine to the double bypass in the trunk ,is it ok to leave it hooked up all the time ?????

Gotcha. I'm theorizing some PIDs require more bandwidth than others, like maybe trans, but haven't thoroughly tested the theory. Mine seems to hit a point pretty quick where it starts to "stick" when logging and I have to remove something to keep it smooth.

You being ham fisted with the cables LOL? I've been using mine for months and data log and load tunes a lot.

I guess my red neck is just to rough with it or the fact that I leave it in the odb2 for long periods of time ,I've got it in the double bypass in the truck now maybe it will last longer being I don't have to remove it so much ,,also if your logging and it sticks pull off the burn box ,when it was hooked up on mine it caused it freeze up during logs and I have a pretty full list of pids ,since I removed it works fine

Being new to the forum I am hesitant to jump right in and start with a "I call BS" post - but....
I am calling BS on anyone having serious issues with the MPVI2 (outside of typical new product intro complexities). To level set we have two MPVI 1's (one Pro and one standard) in the shop along with one MPVI2 and one RTD. It does not cost $400 to upgrade from an MPVI1 to an MPVI2, It costs $189 - https://forum.hptuners.com/showthread.php?71167-MPVI2-Upgrade-FAQ . We had one of the very first MPVI2's issued and yes there were some driver issues, oddball connection issues and occasionally the need to re-license a vehicle already licensed. These were resolved within a week or two of release and every time I get a re-license issue HPtuners issues me replacement credits. The majority of issues folks were having were purely operator or computer error. The MPVI2 is a bit more finicky than the MPVI1. However, after tuning several hundred cars with an MPVI2 I can state that the tool is a huge improvement over the MPVI1 especially with the universal credit option. Additionally, my ancient MPVI1 with $30,000+ credits can be easily converted to an MPVI2. This conversion will allow me to have my previously purchased licenses to be both backed up and available to transfer to another MPVI2 in the event I loose my MPVI2. Currently with the MPVI1 I have to carry an insurance policy to cover loss of the device. I love my MPVI1 Pro but it has to go and is no longer used in the shop other than on previously licensed and tuned cars. To make the case even more palatable for the MPVI2, as we have been tuning the 2020 model year vehicles the only option is to use an MPVI2. The addition of the Pro Features set to the MPVI2 along with wireless/OBD2 wideband data recording is the way of the future. If you are someone who is having an issue with your MPVI2 then please open a case with HPtuners support. They generally respond within 24 hours and in most cases are very helpful.
The biggest shortcoming with both the MPVI1 and MPVI2 is the inability to record data internally for Mopars. As Speedy pointed out a laptop is required. This is the only thing that has kept me from turning in my MPVI1 Pro - I have the ability to record GM logging data internally without the use of a laptop. Hopefully the MPVI2 expander hub will be functional soon and this will be a non-issue. Until then a laptop will be required.
