With the changing times we are seeing lee and less manual transmission vehicles. My guess would be most here started off driving A manual vehicle. And in today’s vehicle world the manual transmission is as rare as Hellcats lol. My 16 year old daughter is learning to drive manual transmissions on her learners permit. And she loves the manual and I feel gives her more of the true vehicle experience. Chime in on what your daughter or son learned to drive.

I told my daughter if she wanted to get her license she HAD to at least learn to drive a manual. She did and thanks me for it on a frequent basis.

No, it was many many moons ago...

I have let her drive it however. She is one of only two other people on the planet to do so, my brother being the other person.

I've taught all 3 of my kids. My daughter never did much with it. She could probably drive one if forced to, but that's about it. She has driven my manual '97 Accord and my '05 Legacy GT at autocross events before.
My 2 sons decided to buy manuals for their first cars and they learned pretty quick. My older son had a '97 SVT Cobra (he has also driven my '05 CTS-V) and my youngest just got an '04 SVT Focus that we've been fixing up.

My son also learned on a manual...strangely he is the only person other than myself to drive the cats...(not even my wife)

My oldest daughter's first experience with a manual was with my M6. I think she was extra stressed knowing it was my baby, but she did well!

I taught one of my sons on his first car (a Saturn). Boring car, but served him well through college and a few years of married life. Was still on its original clutch when he sold it with 170k on the clock.

My wife’s father taught her. He made her drive to the Towne Club store with a case of glass pop bottles to return. She wasn’t allowed to let them clink and rattle. [biggrin]

3 years ago my rental was a Camaro that had the smoothest clutch/stick I’ve ever driven. I drove it straight home rather than to airport drop off and told my 17 yr old daughter to put her shoes on cause it was time to drive a stick! I had a great time and she did well even though she was about as scared as I’ve ever seen her!!

I love the fact that so many of us are keeping the manual tradition and fun alive...thank you for sharing your stories!

Our daughter (20) is currently learning to drive the M6 Cat. She's good with a dirt bike clutch, so she's doing great in the Hellcat. We're a hardcore car family, so the 3 of us really value a manual transmission. Since I was a kid I've always loved manuals and I've always chosen them when possible...big-block El Camino's, Chevelle's, Camaro's, Impala...M4 and M6 Corvettes, E36 M3, Audi A4, Samurai, F250, S-10, Chevy Luv anddd...a Chevette :giggle: to name a few. And I'm currently restoring a 66 Beetle for our daughter. Even my 82-year old mom drives an M6 Aston Martin.

My better half driving the M6...

i feel dirt bikes and 4 wheelers are great tools to teach your kids their future driving skills. Great pics and nice family and I was born in Berea Ohio. Only lived their 3 months and 10 years ago went back for the first time to see the house my parents lived in. I started my daughter off on a Honda CRF110 and then to a 125 and last September a CRF250. She loves riding and is now riding cautiously my CRF450.

Both my daughter (5 speed 4Runner her first car, now 35) and my son (6 speed RX8, now 21)learned to drive on manuals. My son prefers nothing but a stick. Both have driven my cat, my son both at 1/4 mile tracks and at roll racing events. He manages 11 second 1/4’s with it, my daughter she just floors it here and there. Of course I’m with them when they drive it lol except for when I’ve taken both my cars to the track and race my cat with my Capri I let the boy drive the cat as the Capri can be a handful and get out of wack in a heart beat, some of my best memories ever. 48716BE2-A227-4D0C-9AB0-B4E26278EC27.jpeg 80E326F7-DA2A-49ED-94E4-D0FB77DEFF95.jpeg 03D3CBC7-8C9D-449D-A3DA-C26C84970430.jpeg
