Racing Helmet Recommendations?

I signed up for Radford's 2 Day High Performance Driving course.

They require a racing helmet or I can purchase one from them.

Any recommendations on a brand?

This depends on how much you want to spend.

I've been "content" with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GGQW658 @ $180 when I picked it up.

But there are much better helmets, for more money out there.

I'm also not sure I'd go with a full face again, but there is an extra level of protection with it, so that's why I did.

Just get a snell 2020 which should be the latest one out and you won't have to buy another for awhile. I have an Impact. You may want to go some where like a bike shop to look at different ones. I bought an enclosed one which you need for running 9's or quicker but like the open face better

Any automotive racing sanctioning body will require a snell cert. They will not recognize a dot motorcycle helmet. You will not meet the NHRA requirements with a dot helmet. Full coverage Snell will be required.

That would be Radfords requirement then. Considering what you will be doing, I can see where they want open face helmets for communication. I would just get the least expensive one you can find that meets their requirements.

Did they say how much it would be to purchase it from them? If not that much of a difference, then it may be easier to go with them so you can try it on first.

It's also good to try a helmet on before buying to check for fitment. Even checking fitment if you plan to wear glasses (prescription or shades). I used to wear contacts a lot, but now just use my glasses. I tried my helmet on with my glasses and it doesn't quit fit correctly. My helmet aged out in 2020 anyway, so next helmet purchase I'll be trying helmets with my glasses on.

Yes, they said they sell them for around $180...so probably going to do that.

Interesting they want open face but like I said, I do like them more. I don't feel so confined but I have gotten used to my full face helmet

I never checked.

I never had a full face helmet until a few years ago. It is in the rules you need one at 9.99 so I thought a may be there so went full face. I was going 9's in the early 2000 with an open face but don't remember ever seeing it in the rules then. New date Helmets come out every 5 years. So mine is a 2015 but is good until 2025. A 2020 will be good until 2030

Bell Sport EV. It has a shield and gives max view. I was a bit claustrophobic trying on helmets til trying that one!
