Same here, have run it with just ice at the strip. 50/50 antifreeze/water otherwise. Trying a few things to get away from the ice, but nothing we've been able to test well enough yet. And in the famous (or should be) words of Vortecd:
"without DATA, you're just another person with an OPINION"
" without a real world test, it is all a guess"
So trying to test....

Works well, if you're going that route it eats ice. We were using 20# a run, and at least 20# to cool down between runs. If the time waiting in line and staging isn't bad, it's very effective.

Yep, that is how we learn what works and what doesn't:)

For me it’s all about being able to stay as cool as possible under all the snafu scenarios at the track. If everything always went as planned, then either one alone would sufficient. It’s when things get fouled up and delays (sometimes multiple delays) happen, you can loose your cool. The chiller is only working when the engine is running. I’ve had times where I would be idling in staging for a hour if that was all I was using. Running both doesn’t give me colder temps but it extends the time that that ice tank stays cold. I could make a pass and drive directly back around and still have my IC temps under control to make another one. I’ve actually been told to do that when the tree fouled up on the starting line. My chiller takes about 10 minutes idling to take the IC down to low 50’s on the gauge. I’m just running the single setup with a big Whipple so that’s a factor. Either that or mine isn’t working as efficiently as some. With ice and the chiller running (and no long delays) I expect to see 42* at the starting line. Also.... while the ice box works great for drag racing... it’s does nothing for street driving. The chiller keeps the pcm happy on the street.
