Idk I installed tires. The less the better.

Try rotating the tire on the rim and see if you get less weight.

Yeah you hope for a strip of 3-5 tops...a friend of mine works at Discount Tire and I will wait for him for an hour or make a special appointment as his installs are so clean and balanced, like a little strip of 2 of those weights, he uses black weights too. Drag radials though, he says they balance like ass and you end up with a couple strips of 5-10 LOL

Yeah I would have. They didn't... just wondering when it's too much.

Thats alot of steel to come flying off the rim lol

🤷‍♂️

I use duct tape over the weights on my drag radials. The 1 time I forgot, they started flying off.

If they use quality stuff they wont come off. I have not lost any. Normally have a hell of a time getting the foam sticky part off when putting new tires on

Black would be so nice. I have been using a black sharpie so the silver doesn't stick out

5 oz seems an excessive amount, I also would try to find position on rim that static balances to least amount, then run it on a good spin balancer with road force OFF.

I think it was a new tech fresh out of school

^^ Exactly! Many "tire Techs" install tires wherever it falls when mounting, resulting in excessive weights to balance...hence the above response of "Static bubble balance to find the best position of tire to wheel reference. I personally have had it make a 4 oz difference. Anything you can do to help eliminate rotating weight is going to help overall characteristics of ride. Not to mention if you are racing it.

I often find that the wheel and tire with the most weights on it has the lowest road force numbers.
Yes, it's nice to see a minimum of weights, but to me the amount of weight it takes to get a perfect balance is irrelevant.

I'm not in the tire business but do know about the dots. I don't think I have ever had them lined up by the people that should know:rolleyes:

I truly don't get why tire places don't insist on their employees following such a simple rule. Post it on the damn machine if they are that stupid.
It saves time doing the balance, weights + makes for a happier customer for something so simple you could train a monkey to do it !

Many tire manufacturers use a dot to mark the light part of the tire, usually in yellow.
But there are other colors used, and also for other purposes.

Red and blue. I worked at a tire distribution center in Tenn. You know it is a federal offence to steal a tire??
