Ever see this?

So I changed my T-stat over the weekend… anyone see this before? I’ve seen it while racing but never in a road auto…

Thermostat with the rubber ring melted and stuck… so basically the T-stat was open all the time. I removed it and it was stamped 203 degrees. I removed the rubber and there are 6 holes drilled into the face…

Yes, seen it before. Usually after an engine had been overheated.

I have seen it on the race cars I was part of the crew with… I don’t think stock T-stats came that way

It’s an 09.. started its life from Florida (military) went to Maryland then to N. Carolina… I’m the 3rd owner… I found out it was military cuz of the GPS on the radio… car fax says I’m the 3rd owner… I wish I could find the OG owner…

Yes with the rubber gasket from the T-stat in the face to stick it open

Haven't seen that particular failure, but those rubber gaskets are notorious for breaking down, crumbling then polluting the cooling system with little black chunks. Been an issue since 2005.
