This was the first year of hopefully many more. It's a smaller 3 day event that ran Dragway 42, Quaker City Motorsports Park and Kuhnle Motorsports Park (Thompson) the 16th - 18th. Been about a year in the works overall and Skip & crew did an AWESOME job for a first time go. I'd say over 70% of the entries were first-time Drag & Drive participants but we DID run into a few familiar faces from Drag Week & Sick Summer.
It was set up so we did the drives in the morning and raced in the afternoon/evening and I thought that worked better than the usual rat race. It also helped with track conditions giver the cooler October weather.
There were multiple classes and some only had a few entrants so there's definitely room to grow it but they're tentatively capping entries at 200 to keep the group small(er) and leave everyone time to actually enjoy themselves.
We entered Dial-Your-Own mostly because this setup has been so on lately and the index choices were 9.50, 9.90 and 10.90...we also only had single layer gear with us and still haven't made the move to engine containment yet which rules out a lot of the sub 9.99 stuff (I know. It's in the works).
Day 0 Testing the car goes 9.96 at Kuhnle in the left lane. Nice cool weather and it just hooked. But too quick.
Day 1 at Dragway 42. Car goes 9.97 on the same launch. Took Launch down to 1300, let the car shift itself and it goes 10.0675
Day 2 at Quaker. Talked to @ostmike who ran the 9.50 Index and he gave some inside into how the track usually runs for him. So we took the launch back to 1800. Car flashes to 2100 and holds (hello HRDW Day 2) giving me a 1.49 60ft and a 10.0744! Spread of just .0069 after day 2!
Day 3 at Kuhnle. Just frustrating. First 2 passes in the left lane were a 10.138 and a 10.12x - first one just spun off the hit with the launch at 1800. The 2nd was a clean(er) run at 1500 but spun/hopped a bit & we had to make up time somewhere. So we swapped to the 2.50 pulley knowing from sick summer in the heat it'll immediately drop .060 to .070 off the ET...
...third pass? Makes 2lbs less boost on LC, STILL spun on the hit, hooked and then got loose about 100-150ft out. Goes 10.11x - OK. Now I'm bummed. Let's throw the Day 1 MIR launch at it.
FINALLY LEAVES CLEAN at 1300 (0 boost at the hit), hooks and backhalves to a 10.076 for a .0085 spread!
That .0085 spread (absolutely insane performance TBH) earned my first Drag & Drive win!
It was an awesome time overall with plenty of time to actually visit at checkpoints and just hang out with everyone. Doug's 57 Diner has a killer breakfast and the absolute most massive pancakes I've ever seen (not joking). Church Boys Racing had the shop open for us, Johnny's Diner makes a killer patty melt and milkshake, etc... really not one truly bad stop the entire time!
TL : DR - did a local first year Drag & Drive. Won Dial-Your-Own class with a .0085 spread.
