Advice on New Trans purchase please.

Hi all,

I need a new Trans for my 2016 Hellcat Challenger with all the common mods and tune for 950hp. Most mod work done at under 4,000 miles by reputable shop. Then upgraded to FF, dual pumps, etc. with one of the very top tuners. New SC and Engine and pcm/tcm tunes at 12k again top shop and tuner. Now she needs new a trans. after approx. 100 >9.9 1/4mi. passes and street driving, hot rodding around since normal 500mi. break in.

So, Here I am needing a new “Reliable” trans. I’ve narrowed it down to these options but just can’t decide. Reliability for 3 or 4 test n tune type events a year and otherwise street driving is my main concern, not best et. I would really appreciate some of the Forums hard earned advice. 🙏🏻

1. Take to the Dodge dealership and have them R&R with NEW OEM trans.

2. Take to local trans shop for R&R, with NEW OEM trans.

3. Take to local trans shop for R&R, with trans from D&B ‘Hellno’ on the forums (either the 8HP Extreme 8HP SS) or other shops ‘built’ trans.

4. Let Race Shop do the Work.

Stock build with performance frictions
Thank You Dave! I’ll keep in touch if the results trend continue like they are. I kind of figured that but keep teetering on the fence. I had trouble getting a hold of Alex at Fullblown performance to do the R&R and I found a couple of close by Trans shops that have been around for ages. I’m gonna talk to them in person but hopefully removal, shipping and replacement will happen without drama. 😳

David, thanks for the help deciding on your 8HP90SS Trans with billet drum &hub upgrades. It should be on its way to you from So.Cal. by the end of next week if all goes well. 😎 I’m excited to get her back on the track and see how deep into the 9’s I can go before getting kicked out of the stupid NHRA Tracks here in Cali! 😡

If you're still looking for shipping suggestions, I have used Yellow Freight several times to ship transmissions back and forth across the country for builds. Never had a problem with them, and they were reasonable on the price. They even came to my house for pickup and drop off. I strapped the trans to an appropriate sized pallet and they took care of the rest.

Upgrades are always a good thing and I'll go see @hellno if I ever need one, but knock on wood mines hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit. I run a lot of 9 sec passes as well. What started to happen on yours? Slipping at wot gear changes?

It started with a 3-4 flare. Then, strangely enough it would shift to 8th whereas prior to that it would never go into 8th on cruise control or on the freeway in sport or track mode. It would throw codes and then towards the end the speedo wasn’t working right, etc.
