For those of you in the Northeast, Loring Timing Association holds land speed trials on the 2.5mi long runway at the former, but still maintained, Loring AFB. HC's qualify for the "Supercar" division with minimal requirements. WOT for 1 mile. My best was 173.537 in a 2020 M6. A local guy with a slightly modded 2019 Charger (non-RE) did 203+ in the 1.5mi in 2021! (Note: Doing the 1.5mi in a street car requires approval of LTA.)

https://www.loringtiming.com/track

There are 2 events scheduled for 2023, July and Aug/Sept. If you really want to see what your car can do, I highly recommend it. The cost of the registration, hotel and meals is less than the cost of the ticket and atty if you get caught on the hgwy!

Check out the FB site also:

https://www.facebook.com/loringtiming/

Pretty much all you need is an approved helmet, leather gloves, non-synthetic clothing, and properly mounted 5lb fire extinguisher.

If you are in the area, I recommend it.

The Colorado Mile has been gone for several years now, I really miss it.

He's right, if you can do this, get out there.

We have a few nice highways around here (NH), but they often get caught, I have posted some of them. Here are a couple photos my wife took on the drive. Long way between exits, beautiful straight road in excellent condition (I95), you can sometimes see 2+ mi ahead hilltop to hilltop. If you want to save the entry fee, you can do an easy 200 on the way up and down!

Any of you that keep up with the What Did You Do With Your Hellcat Today thread already know I had a successful trip. I just returned and I'll be posting info and pics. My best pass was 191.347 in the 1.5mi. I'm going back! Stay tuned!

Wed I arrived early, prepped the car, first run was 176.9xx in the 1mi, not impressed, my M6 best was 173.437. Subsequent runs were slower. Not happy.

Thurs, same disappointing numbers. Last run I did the 1.5mi, not only did I do 187+, but my 1mi was the best yet! (177.119) No idea why, and don’t even think I let off early! In the 1mi, I have 1.5 mile to decell, why would I let off until I was waaay past the sensor!

Forecast for Fri was very bad, but the storm ended by dawn and everything was dry by 9:30 or so. Since the forecast was so bad, I slept in (hey, this is one of the real pleasures we old guys get!), had breakfast with the wife, walked the dog, and got there maybe 10:30. Maybe 5deg cooler than Wed but with a light tailwind. I added 2psi after Bull’s suggestion. First run (best) was 191.347. I’m ok with that!

More stories and pics to come!

Pull is very strong until it shifts at about 170 then it is weak, but still pulling, about 1mph/sec. If the top gears were spaced closer, I think it would be much better, but of course if it is optimized for one thing, it sucks at everything else! Many people commented when walking by that this is a car you can drive everyday and still get good results at things like this! These really are special cars!

Another trick for next time...

I took the exhaust down, cleaned the various joints so they would pivot nice and smooth (and this helped them seal up nicely too).

I was then able to reinstall it up tighter to the underside of the car making for a cleaner belly...

Aero counts...

; )

It kills me when I hear about people driving their cars on the Saltflats.

They are SALT!

I used to work out on them when I was in H.S., our vehicles were destroyed in short order.

The guys that build custom cars to run out there only get 3 to 5 years before either rebuilding or a new chassis...

Just don't.

Good idea, I'll take a look over when I do the oil change, I'm taking the M6 in Aug, I have the 3.90. I think the 3.70 would be faster in the 1.0, but I believe the 3.90 will be faster in the 1.5. Last year I ran the 3.90 to 170+ in 5th, but it goes flat in 6th. The 3.70 will go to 180+ which is great for the 1mi, but I expect it will go flat after that. The 3.90 should keep me closer to the power band in the 1.5 We'll see what happens!. :) THANKS!!!!

Local guy took his 2019 HC Charger (non-RE) to Loring 2 years ago. With pulley and tune he did 203.7 in the 1.5mi. He told me after that it was governed to 204 or so but no one knew at the time, not even the tuner. What year was your buddy's HC?

I picked up ~2mph in the mile with the 3.90s, however that was in 8000-8500DA, so there are significant differences, not only aero, but motor.

I think you've seen it, but a couple of my runs are in my signature, I was always arguing about holding 5th, or making the shift into 6th.

Ultimately I decided that as long as I made a clean 5-6 shift, it was worth it, even when the timing gear was imminent.

Congrats! Wonder what mine would do with the race gas tune once I have it fully dialed in. Probably similar to what Stan ran I imagine.

That is really cool and would be awesome to see, I think I would have more fun watching it.
Mines limited to 168 and I have my speed limiter set to 130.
It sounds really cool but I am not doing a tune, tires and the rest to try it. I like to go fast but not that fast :ROFLMAO: mid 100's is good for me
I had the wife's Jeep up to 111 the other morning coming into work. It's nice coming in at 3am on empty highways
